May 24 The no shampoo challenge experimentFACTS
I shampoo my hair every other day. Hovewer, whenever I skip the shampooing one day, my hair gets greasy. My boyfriend washes his hair everyday. If he stops shampooing his hair one day, the same happens to him. I remember that during some time I also washed my hair every day, and skipping one day meant to get my hair all greasy.
HYPOTHESIS
Why does it happen? Well, the shampoo is just doing its job. It is clearing out all the grease of my hair, but also is disturbing the natural balance of my scalp and hair (in fact, there is a whole movement about it. You can google it, just type "The no shampoo challenge" in). The grease buildup is not just due to the dust in the enviroment. The hair needs to mantain the oil concentration constant, so the more I wash my hair, the more grease my scalp makes to keep it fairly constant.
THE EXPERIMENT
I am going to stop washing my hair. I'll do it gradually until my hair gets use to it. I should be able to wash my hair once a week without greasy (and stinky) consequences. I expect it to take some time. I'll see how it turns out.
WHY DO I DO IT?
Procastination... In addition, I want to know how much the shampoo is really needed. Is it a product of the consumer society? Is it true that I really need to use shampoo every day? I could save money, and make my life greener.
I'll let you know how it goes, and for how long I am able to stick to my goal.
:)
